Blake's Web Designer Kit

Planning and delivering a website doesn’t necessarily have a rock solid process or certain tools that are needed every time. Each designer has strengths and weaknesses. This kit contains a few web design tools to take the edge off of your struggles.

Inspiration

TheBestDesigns - Lacking movitation and direction? Check out what others have created for inspiration.

Design Tools

ColorSchemer - Ready made color schemes uploaded by users. Same idea as Kuler but less advanced.

Subtle Patterns - A great resource of free repeating patterns moderated by Atle Mo.

Development Tools

Reset CSS by Eric Meyer - The goal of a reset stylesheet is to reduce browser inconsistencies in things like default line heights, margins and font sizes of headings, and so on. Reset styles quite often appear in CSS frameworks, and the original “meyerweb reset” found its way into Blueprint, among others.

CSS Menu Generator - Provides the average webmaster with tools to create custom, cross browser compatible website menus. Create custom CSS menus without having to know all the complicated HTML and CSS.

Font Tester - A free online font comparison tool. It allows you to easily preview and compare different fonts side by side with various CSS font styles applied to them. It is very useful for web developers who are looking for just the right font/style/color to use in their pages.

Variable Grid System - The variable grid system is a quick way to generate an underlying CSS grid for your site. The CSS generated file is based on the 960 Grid System.

Gridinator - A more advanced alternative grid system generator.

Quality Assurance Tools

Adobe Browser Lab - An online service that helps ensure your web content displays as intended. Accurately preview web pages across multiple browsers and operating systems, navigate links, and use diagnostic tools to optimize websites efficiently.

W3C Verification - This validator checks the markup validity of Web documents in HTML, XHTML, SMIL, MathML, etc. If you wish to validate specific content such as RSS/Atom feeds or CSS stylesheets, MobileOK content, or to find broken links, there are other validators and tools available.

CSS Beautifier – Organize and clean up your CSS mess.

This list will be ongoing. As always, comments and suggestions appreciated!
